The SUBNOTIC film is a personal exploration of trance and inner imagery. The images represent a place where thoughts can drift and the subconscious begins to influence what I might hear, see, or feel. It’s a reminder to go there often, if I close my eyes, and imagine a time when I once was. I got the idea for this when I was half asleep on a plane ride, not realizing if I was awake or dreaming. People will often dream of something and forget it when they wake up – this didn’t happen this time. There was something about an idea coming to you that kept me coming back to this concept. We often try to find inspiration for our projects, but those moments can happen often if we allow them to naturally. Technical Notes I shot this with the Bolex H16(SB) on 16mm film. This camera, originally made in the 70’s, was popular for filming during war times because it’s powered by winding a spring. Everything on it has to be done manually. This process can be tedious, but gives you lots of control over the final look and feel of the film. Loading the stock, having limited record times, using a light meter, changing frame rates, are tools to help you produce the image in your head. Heidi and Chaz have been doing these rotating art shows and lots of people came to hang out this time. We were happy to see people socializing and using the space. Until next time!
