A few months ago, APEXER recruited me for a paint run, so we paid a quick visit to the original MTN COLORS HQ of NORTH AMERICA. On the drive down, we discussed testing out the new Hardcore 2 on our 2000 Toyota Sienna — the beat up minivan desperately needed a quick facelift and I was totally surprised APEXER wanted to throw down on it. By the time we arrived, he came up with a simple camouflage color scheme and agreed to the collaboration. Brian ended up burning through a couple rolls and filmed the entire project on his 16mm Bolex. Terry Barentsen and I, snapped some 35mm B&W photos. APEX Paints the Sienna from WEREHAUS on Vimeo. It’s been a long time coming, but we’re excited to share the film: “APEXER PAINTS the SIENNA,” the photos, and the van with you! We’ll be displaying the Sienna at the San Francisco DMV from 6pm – 8pm, on Friday, August 29th (see flyer). Come by and share a road brew, bring your boards, snag some photos, and catch the film (will be playing in the van). There is also a special camper conversion by the A2BSF & Mixed Nuts dudes.
Back story of the van: Our faithful Sienna has been clocking road stories since we first purchased the vehicle from a neighbor in Irvine, Ca, back in 2008. We adopted the van with 100K miles, took a small bet, and drove it slowly through the lower 48 states for our recession documentary, The Recess Ends. We never expected the $4000 minivan to complete the 6 month journey without going through extensive repairs or maxing out on our AAA roadside services. 5 years later, the odometer is reading somewhere near 220K, and recently passed California Smog (after it failed twice). In my opinion, I think we can take the Sienna to 500K miles. I can’t wait to see where this thing will take us.
